People have gone a bit crazy with all the ad options available these days for earning money. While placing ads on your website can be an excellent way to bring in some extra income, you really do need to think carefully before doing so on a business website. There are a few things to consider before you load your ecommerce pages up with Adsense, Adbrite and affiliate links.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is what the purpose of your ecommerce site is.

If you want to just earn money and don’t particularly care how you manage it, then you might as well go for ads. However, for those of you who are aiming for a true business website, ads can be a major distraction to your visitors and potential customers. You are offering them a way to leave your site, possibly before they have even seen your products! That is never very good for business.

Placing ads on a business website is tricky. It is almost never recommended on the home page, since that is the first place visitors usually land and having ads there not only encourages potential clients to click away from your site, they also clutter up the page that is supposed to be selling your product and company! Avoid distracting visitors by limiting ads to other, secondary pages.

When placing ads on a business website, it is a good idea to keep them unobtrusive. You don’t want to force your clients to leave, although if they aren’t going to buy anything, they might as well click on an ad! To this end, it is best to keep your ads at the bottom of your pages or to the side, usually below the fold. That way, if they finish looking at the page and don’t see anything interesting, they have an option to earn you some cash by clicking on one of the ads you have placed.

It is a good idea to limit the number of ads you place on a business webpage. Although Google limits you to just three ad spaces when using Adsense, you can still add other types of programs. This quickly becomes very busy and distracting to the average visitor. By keeping the number of ad blocks on your pages to one or two at most, you ensure that the customer will actually see your product instead of simply being dazzled by a myriad of images and links.

Ads on business websites can be a good way to earn a bit of extra money, but you need to weigh your options carefully. There is no point in setting up an ecommerce site only to fill it with ads and turn it into a banner farm so no one will ever see your products!

And further suppose that by giving away the course, you can make $10,000 a month.

Interested? Here’s how one bloke (we’ll call him Jim) is doing exactly that:

Jim created a large, comprehensive course aimed at newbies who want to start an online business.

Mind you, he didn’t create it from scratch. Rather, he took the best PLR he could find and repurposed it into a massive course that teaches people all of the main methods of online marketing, such as PPC, affiliate marketing, list building, flipping websites, Amazon, selling software, creating info products, blogging and so forth.

In the course, he includes the basics of each method and encourages his students to choose a method and get busy building their business.

Then for each method, he promotes an affiliate link for the ‘best’ in-depth course in each category.

Now pay attention to this next bit – he only promotes recurring courses. That is, membership type courses and sites that bill month after month.

So when he makes a sale, he’s going to continue to get paid on it for as long as that person remains a member.

It gets even better, because he also promotes related products such as web hosting, autoresponders and so forth. Anything that makes sense, works and bills monthly is a product he’s likely to promote.

And he doesn’t even stop there. He is also creating his own recurring courses on each topic. Once he finishes a course, he puts it online and then changes the corresponding affiliate links to his own course.

He likes to make each course a set length of time such as six to eight months, because he’s found the students tend to stay longer and pay more when there is an ‘end’ in sight.

And of course inside each of his own courses, he promotes corresponding products that help his students build their businesses better and faster.

He does all of this by first building trust with his list, showing that he knows what he is talking about, and being the reader’s advocate and teacher.

Creating the trust is crucial, and it’s pretty darn easy, too. When you tell your readers the good and the bad of any money making method, they start to trust you. Remember, most marketing emails for online business type products are only telling the subscribers how great something is. They don’t tell what’s not so great. But he always gives his opinion, both good and bad, and because of that people love him, trust him and pretty much do whatever he says to do.

So by the time he gets around to promoting affiliate links, his readers are taking his suggestions without a second thought.

I know he’s earning at least $10,000 a month with this method, and frankly he’s not working all that hard, either. The main thing he focuses on is continuing to bring new people into his free course, knowing that eventually he will make one or more sales to many of them. And when he does, those sales will be recurring.

It’s a great business model and one that almost anyone can duplicate. Remember that your target market is newbies and folks who haven’t seen much success yet in their online business.

And you can monetize this even further if you like, by promoting special deals to your readers who have been with you long enough to trust you, as well as selling solo mailings to other marketers.

One thing – if you decide to sell solo ads, I’d advise you generally only send the ads to those subscribers who have not purchased from you. It’s a way to monetize your non-buyers, without annoying or losing any of your customers.

Now you might be wondering – how do you give away your course? The fastest way to do it without relying on other list owners is to set up a funnel in which you drive paid traffic. Ideally the funnel is self-liquidating, so that it pays for itself. And you can do this by advertising your free course, and then having a backend product that allows you to break even.

Make sure your backend product is a great one with tremendous value, and you’ll do fine.

What Type of Music Do the Most Intelligent People Enjoy? Why It Matters for Musicians

It has often been said that the most intelligent people like certain types of music. Indeed, I guess if I asked you, and you were to take an educated guess, you might say that classical music such as Mozart, or Beethoven would be amongst the type of music enjoyed by the top tier of human IQ. Yes, I think this is the general perception, and I believe it to be correct, although I am not certain for sure. The question is why, I suppose, why is it that classical music is often corresponded to highly intellectual people?

Is it because the people that wrote those symphonies were highly intelligent and creative geniuses themselves, and then only someone else who is of super high intellect would also find this music to be enlightening? Now then, I know many highly intellectual people that enjoy other types of music as well. And even though I really don’t care for opera all that much, I realize that many very smart people do enjoy that type of vocal wailing.

In doing the research for this article I read a couple of research papers which seem to indicate that those people who are very good in math, are also very good with musical instruments, and making music. The controlled chaos, and complexity of classical music seems to fit the stereotype of a math genius. Of course that is only one type of intelligence, as there are many. Nevertheless those of high emotional IQ can also appreciate classical music due to its highs and lows and the spaces between.

Of course, composing and playing music is different than listening to it, and it takes a creative genius there is no doubt to produce a good classical piece. After all, many have tried, and failed to impress anyone listening. Still, we have to ask ourselves if the stereotype is correct, and if the highest and most intelligent of our society are more drawn to classical music than other types?

It does appear in the same stereotypical fashion that rap music, if indeed we are willing to call it music, is not necessarily enjoyed by anyone of high intellect, but someone with a standard IQ level might find the beat, alliteration, rhyming, and basic rhythm pleasing to them. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it. Perhaps you can relate all this to your own IQ level, and the type of music that you are most drawn to. The final question might be if you listen to let’s say classical music, will you become smarter over time? That is to say can one affect the other?

The Business of the 21st Century: Review

Robert Kiyosaki, the author of the best-selling series of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” books has recently published a new book. This is a review of this latest book, “The Business of the 21st Century”.

He introduces the book:

“In The Business of the 21st Century, I’m going to show you why you need to build your own business, and exactly what kind of business. But this isn’t just about changing the type of business you’re working with; it’s also about changing you. I can show you how to find what you need to grow the perfect business for you, but for your business to grow, you will have to grow as well.”

The premise of this book is that you can STILL experience success in business. Despite the “tough times” that are present due to the worldwide economic crisis, fortunes will be made.

But the qualifier is that you must choose wisely.

It is a current reality that American workers are competing with workers in every country in the world. Many of these workers are HAPPY to do the same work for one-tenth (or less) of your current wage!

For this reason – and many more economic factors – we are living in an era of unprecedented unemployment levels. The rates are often correlated to “The Great Depression” but that is not a fair comparison.

While the percentages of people who are unemployed may be similar to Depression levels, we live in a completely different world. The level of education, technology, and mobility are a hundred times more advanced that in the 1930’s. And yet, tens of millions of Americans are unemployed – or “underemployed” and working in jobs far below their education and experience. This is especially true of “Baby Boomers” who have very slim chances of matching their old jobs.

Robert Kiyosaki touches on this realityin his description of “The Cash Flow Quadrant”. He says ALL income earners fall into one of four categories, or four corners of “The Cash Flow Quadrant”.

The four divisions are:

Employee: These people are looking for a good job with benefits. They are also 100% at the mercy of their employers, who are at the mercy of global competition. The goal of every employee is to have some money left after paying all their expenses.

Self-Employed: These are small business owners and sole proprietors, characterized by “Mom and Pop” stores and service providers. Unfortunately, many displaced workers have tried to open a business only to find that they merely “bought” themselves a 100-hour per week job. They also quickly learn that when they stop working they stop earning.

Business owner: These people understand that maximum earning potential is only attainable by leveraging the efforts of many, many more. A business builder creates a “machine” that operates around the clock, without their direct input in every stage of the process.

One of the HUGE differences in the wealth creation potential of a business owner is the legal and ethical ability to record expenses on a “pre-tax” basis.

And the fourth quadrant is the Investor. The Investor has achieved sufficient wealth so that their money now “works” for them! This is the goal that all people strive for, if only to reach the point where they can someday “retire”. Unfortunately, today the vast majority of Americans can never retire without a drastic reduction in their lifestyle.

According to Kiyosaki, Business owners and Investors represent less than 20% of the productive population. More than 80% of workers are not free to direct their own schedules – they are tied to their job or their store.

Robert Kiyosaki advises that EVERYONE should have the goal of being a self-employed business owner. He then writes WHY network marketing is “The Business of the 21st Century” for these reasons:

1. Network marketing is the easiest business model to transition from employee to business owner. You can also start part-time and transition to full-time. In addition, the cost of entry is very low – usually as little as a few hundred dollars.

2. Network marketing is a system that provides leaders who have a vested interest in YOUR success. These leaders – and the available marketing systems – ALSO provide extensive training to make you successful. In most cases, these training resources are available for FREE or at a very low cost. Note: it is ALWAYS less expensive to purchase the accumulated wisdom of successful people than to repeat their mistakes!

3. Network marketing provides the most effective means of promoting a product – that is, by using personal relationships to provide recommendations. (Today these recommendations extend online to thousands of “friends and followers”)

4. Network marketing leverages the efforts of dozens, hundreds, and even thousands of others. All of these people are working on THEIR business but also are creating a stream of residual income for you.

5. Network marketing provides almost unlimited opportunities to increase your knowledge and develop your personal skills – which makes you more valuable as a leader and resource to others. It also places you in the circle of influence of other leaders who are in the top 1% of income earners and opens up additional opportunities.

6. Network marketing is a scalable enterprise. There are many avenues open to successful network marketers. All of these can be expanded to increase the business, across the country or around the world.

7. Network marketing creates not only wealth creation but an asset. The business you build is legacy. You can create a business that will outlive you.

8. Networking marketing is one business that creates residual income. You also create multiple streams of income – unlike more than 80% of workers who have one paycheck and are helpless when that ends. Residual income means you earn even when you are not “working” and you can hardly turn it off! For these reasons, network marketing truly has no income ceiling!

There are no barriers based on race, age, background, or any other factor that may make you “unemployable” in a typical job search. Today, hundreds line up for one job opening as a janitor. The Dragon Has Entered: English to Chinese Translation

The People’s Republic of China is viewed through different lenses even today. Exotic. Mysterious. Aggressive. Fascinating. These are just some of the monikers that are pasted onto this 9.597 million square kilometres that make up the Land of the Dragon.

What is China today? How did “Made in China” become the most sighted marking on manufactured goods? Why has speaking and writing Chinese gained such significance? If the Chinese don’t master English, isn’t the obvious solution for English users to master Chinese and translate, translate, translate??!

What is China today?

China is a land surrounded by the Gobi desert in the North, thick, impenetrable forests in the South, the Himalayas on the West and the Pacific Ocean in the East. This is why early civilisation had limited interactions with this country. The politics of this country also added to its economic and cultural isolation. It was only in the 1970s that the winds of radical economic reforms swept through China’s vast landscape and ushered in a global trade economy. The Communist government in China has opened up not just the market but the free flow of trade and technology across its borders.


China is the second largest economy in the world next to the USA

a global hub of manufacturing

the largest exporter and the second largest importer of goods and

the largest trading nation.

Add to these facts that China happens to weigh in with a population of 1,382,323,332 and growing every millisecond (yes, count it live by clicking on the link and you will see how fast the number changes!), and you will know the mind-boggling economy and market that is being considered.

Tongue tied in English

The emphasis on English education in China took off only in 1979 when the dragon established strong diplomatic ties with the American eagle. With estimates of English “speakers” as low as 10 million and English “learners” at 300 million, China has still a long way to go in free and easy communication considering that a sizeable chunk of the West uses English. So, is this mammoth, well connected market to remain incommunicado? Hardly!

So said Sir Francis Bacon in his Essays, 1625.

Translation: If the Chinese don’t learn English, then English users will have to learn Chinese.

The official language of China and Taiwan is Mandarin or Standard Chinese. It is also one of the four official languages of Singapore.

Cantonese (a variety of Yue Chinese) is the official language of Hong Kong and Macau, the two mostly self governing special administrative regions of China.

The script uses characters called hanzi: there are more than 100,000 individual characters. Roughly speaking, each character represents a syllable and can be used individually or in combinations to form words. A recent development has divided this script to simplified Chinese which uses reduced and simpler characters; this is used mostly in Mainland China. The traditional version still continues in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

Pinyin, the official transliteration system using the Latin alphabet, has also been developed to ease pronunciation.

In addition, it should be noted that Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the well heeled Chinese communities of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines and Mongolia where the Dragon makes its presence pretty prominent and breathes a scorching breath.

Language translates to business

With China encouraging the free flow of business and becoming the golden land of opportunity, communicating in Chinese takes on varied shapes and colours if this high potential market has to be tapped deeper and deeper.

Professional Chinese translation has to be specific to the targeted area and the purpose which demands this service. For example, if the target market is Mainland China and /or Singapore, the type of written Chinese would be Simplified Chinese. Unit Linked Insurance Policies are termed as ULIPs in short. In this kind of policy, the premium paid is divided into two parts. One part is used for payment of premium for insurance coverage and the other part is allocated to equities. In the initial 3 years, a substantial part of the premium paid is allocated for insurance coverage. Later this proportion decreases and larger part is allocated to equities.  

ULIPs are essentially an insurance product with investment benefits. But it is a long term investment. A horizon of 10 to 15 years must be kept in case of investing in ULIPs. There are several risks associated with ULIPs also.  

ULIPs invest in equities. Equity market is subject to fluctuations and thus the returns on this policy can’t be assured. However it can be assumed that if a person stays invested for a long period of time in equity markets, the results will be positive.  

Investment in ULIPs require patience. It is not a short term investment. It is also not meant for people with a short term goal. ULIPs are ideal for young people who can keep their money locked in for a longer period of time. It is an ideal product for babies who may need a substantial amount of money for their education in the later part of their life.  

As an ULIP policy is bought, the owner is given units. The NAVs of the units fluctuate or vary as per market conditions. ULIPs can give high returns if one stays invested in ULIPs for a long period of time. Equity markets do give positive results if an investment is made into it for a long period of time.  

Thus ULIP is an insurance cum investment product. If invested in a proper manner, it can meet one’s long term financial goals apart from giving an insurance cover.
